Task 28, Social Acceptance of Wind Energy Projects Task28
 

Activities in 2015

  • National expert Meeting on June 5th in Berlin, Germany (see Dissemination).
  • Finalization of the working document on "monitoring social acceptance of wind energy projects".
  • Work on the function of "positive intermediaries" from pratical experience in the various countries.
  • Several web meetings were hold to coordinate activities, prepare Meetings and reportings.
  • Exchange took place over personal overlaps and with the Projects "InspireGrid" and "WINERCOST". Additionally, experts from EWA`s "Wise Project" and the EU "e-track" participated at the Berlin Meeting of the working Group.
  • Italy presented its State-of-the-Art Report.
  • The second half year of 2015 will be dedicated to summarizing the activites of this second period and to deliver reports and publications. Additionally, first discussions about a possible continuation after 2015 have started.


Activities in 2014

  • National expert meetings to bring together research and practice in the countries involved in IEA Wind Task 28. In 2014, two Meetings were organized, one in Milano, Italy (March 2014), and in Blyth, UK (May 2014), see Dissemination.
  • Further discussion of "monitoring social acceptance of wind energy projects" and discussion on the follow-up to the flash note from 2013.
  • Work on the function of "positive intermediaries" from pratical experience in the various countries (results to follow end of 2014/beginning of 2015).
  • Several web meetings were hold to coordinate activities, prepare Meetings and reportings.


Activities in 2013

  • Annual Report 2013
    • Publications and presentations at various occasions, including the EWEA session on "Social Acceptance - lessons in how to achieve it", see Dissemination
    • Discussion of "monitoring social acceptance of wind energy projects" and processing the findings in form of a "Flash note" that was presented to IEA Wind ExCo.
    • National expert meeting in Tokyo, Japan in May 2013, with about 100 participants from all kind of disciplines involved in wind power research and development.

    • Preparations for the exention period of IEA Wind Task 28
    • As a "success control" of IEA Wind Task 28`s work, but also as a possible kick-off for the second period, a Topical Expert Meeting together with IEA Wind Task 11 was accomplished in June 2012 in Switzerland.

    Activities in 2011

  • Annual Report 2011
    • Discussions for a second project period for IEA Wind Task 28 were taken up as the issue of social acceptance still requires international and interdisciplinary exchange such as the working group and national expert meetings as realised in Task 28.
    • "Good Practice recommendations will be finished to be presented to IEA Wind ExCo in spring 2012.
    • Dissemination activites were increasing, including presentations by working group members, publication and interviews (see Dissemination).
    • The sixth Meeting of the Working Group took place in October in Trondheim, Norway. It was connected with an exchange workshop of Norwegian experts(see Dissemination).
    • The fifth Meeting of the Working Group took place in March in Utrecht, the Netherlands. It was connected with an exchange workshop of Dutch experts in Amsterdam (see Dissemination).
    • IEA Wind Task 28 participated at the EWEA 2011: Eric Lantz represented Task 28 at the IEA Wind side event (see Dissemination).


    Activities in 2010

    • Annual report of IEA Wind Task 28 2010
    • Work on "Good Practices" was started at the Working Group meeting in Dublin.
    • The forth Meeting of the Working Group took place in September in Dublin, Ireland. It was connected with an exchange workshop of Irish experts in Galway (see Dissemination).
    • Work on the State-of-the-Art Report was finished and presented at the ExCo meeting in autumn for approval.
    • The web database was steadily expanded and includes about 150 documents in several languages from about 15 countries.
    • The third Meeting of the Working Group took place in April in Warsaw, Poland. It was connected with EWEC 2010 and IEA Wind Task 28 presentations during the conference.
    • IEA Wind Task 28 participated at the EWEC 2010: on one hand in the session "Strategies to increase social acceptance" (presentation + paper), on the other hand with a side event (see Dissemination).


    Progress in 2009

    • Annual report of IEA Wind Task 28 2009
    • The web database was steadily expanded and included about 100 documents in several languages from about 15 countries at the end of 2009.
    • An abstract was submitted for EWEC 2010 in October.
    • The work on the State-of-the-Art Report have started in autumn in the participating countries and at the Operating Agent`s.
    • A third report on the activities towards the IEA IA Wind Energy was finalised in October 2009.
    • The second Meeting of the Working Group took place in October in Boulder, US. It was connected with the first gathering of US experts on the topic of social acceptance of wind energy.
    • The informations on the new task have been further disseminated. Countries having committed so far include: Canada, Germany, Finland, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, USA, Denmark and Ireland. The Netherlands are highly interested but have not yet officially committed.
    • The official Kick-off Meeting took place in Magdeburg, Germany, on the 20th to the 21st of March.
    • A second report on the activities was produced for the IEA IA Wind Energy beginning of 2009.


    Progress in 2008

    • Annual report of IEA Wind Task 28 2008
    • A first short report was produced to the IEA IA Wind Energy by end of 2007.
    • A 5th draft of the proposal has been presented to the Executive Committee IEA Wind at the meeting of the 22nd and 23rd of April 2008 in Aalborg.
    • The ExCo unanimously approved the Annex Social Acceptance of Wind Energy Projects to move to the task definition stage.
    • The proposed Operating Agent is Robert Horbaty from ENCO Energie-Consulting AG Switzerland.
    • A first Pre-kick-off Meeting was held on the 28th / 29th of August 2008 in Bubendorf, Switzerland.
    • Countries having committed so far include: Canada, Finland, Germany, Japan, Norway, Switzerland and USA.
    • Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, and Sweden are highly interested but have not yet officially committed.
    • A first website has been put online www.socialacceptance.ch

    Based on this activities and the results, the Swiss delegation to the IEA Wind Energy Implementing Agreement, started discussion in order to begin a new Task. This new task was presented at the IEA Wind ExCo in September, in Zaragossa, Spain. It was decided, that the planning for this new task should continue and that at the next meeting – based on firm commitments of other participating countries – a final decision to start this task in 2008 should be taken.
    A detailed questionnaire for interested partner was developed and forwarded to all member countries of the IEA Wind Implementing Agreement.
